Inspiration can strike in the most unexpected places—even while rummaging through your fridge! Yesterday, I found myself staring at a bag of milk just two days away from expiring, wondering how I could avoid letting it go to waste. Next to it, I spotted a couple of lemons that had been hanging around for a bit too long. That’s when it hit me: why not turn these soon-to-expire ingredients into something beautiful and nourishing?

I made buttermilk. This process not only allowed me to use up the milk and lemons but also sparked an idea for my next batch of facial soap. Buttermilk is a secret skincare gem because of its natural lactic acid, which gently exfoliates the skin, leaving it soft and glowing. Instead of jumping into soap-making right away, I froze the homemade buttermilk for future use.

My rummaging didn’t stop there. I noticed a small container of leftover greek yogurt in the fridge and thought, "Why not create a yogurt-based soap bar?" Yogurt adds an extra creamy texture and helps hydrate the skin. Inspired by the tangy, tropical vibe of yogurt, I decided to scent the soap with pineapple and give it a cheerful yellow hue. The end result? A gorgeous bar of soap that not only smells like pineapple yogurt but also looks the part—a fun, fruity addition to my collection!

Some of my best soaps come from moments like these, where I’m simply trying to use up ingredients that might otherwise go to waste. It’s a reminder that beauty and creativity often emerge from the little things we overlook, even something as ordinary as fridge leftovers.

Whether it’s buttermilk, yogurt, or an unexpected combination of ingredients, I love transforming everyday items into luxurious skincare products. These small, serendipitous moments remind me why I’m so passionate about handmade soapmaking.

So next time you’re eyeing something about to expire, think about the possibilities. You might just end up with your next favorite creation—or in my case, a soap that smells like sunshine and feels like a treat for your skin!
